TIMELINE

2 Weeks
LVL482 is an esports broadcasting and events company based in Southern Louisiana. Their focus is primarily on growing the fighting game community scene and providing streaming services.
The team at LVL482 wanted to change up their brand but didn't know whether to do a brand refresh or a rebrand. I guided them through that process.

Before the Rebrand
DISCOVERY
The brand was built upon 3 main ideas:
1. Leveling up and gaining experience by growing the community
2. Creating RPG-esque progression and story campaigns for each event
3. Possessing easily adaptable assets for a niche audience

ORIGINS
The history of the brand name started out as a casual reference to the co-owner's dad's license plate. The name was catchy, and the "leveling up" aspect fit perfectly with their brand.

CONCEPT
I presented three final ideas to Lvl482. The first being a refresh - retaining the experience bar as core of the design. The second taking a completely different direction - focusing on the origins of their brand name. The third idea was a mix between a redesign and refresh - branching into a modernized and more abstract concept of an XP bar.
FINAL LOGO
The team ultimately chose option 1. It held some references to their old logo which would help ease in consumers with brand affinity to their new look. A pixel style was introduced to the brand, giving tribute to old school arcade fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken.

BROADCAST OVERLAYS
I developed a kit that was easily editable. Anyone with photoshop would be able to click a single button to alternate between different color palettes.
